Abijah becomes the king of Judah and taunts Jeroboam with a speech attacking Israel’s stresses and impiety. He also stresses Judah’s Levitical priesthood and the cultic protocols. Abijah triumphs in wars and takes Bethel and other cities. Jeroboam does not recover his power after the battle and weaknesses and dies. Abijah sires many children and dies a powerful king.
