The law is read stipulating that no Moabites or Ammonites shall come into the temple. Nehemiah travels back to Persia, and when he returns back to Jerusalem, he is horrified to learn that Eliashib, who was in charge of managing the storerooms of the temple, had rented out a room to Tobiah. Tobiah is then exiled, and Nehemiah also learns that the Levites had not been given their rightful portions and that business was running on the Sabbath. Eliashib’s son had also married Sanballat’s daughter, and Nehemiah cleansed Judah from anything Pagan and interceded for them.
