Josiah reads the book of the law to Judah, and Josiah is set a clear program of religious reform. He destroys the pagan alter at Bethel and the high places in Samaria. A central Passover is held in Jerusalem, and Josiah dies during the battle of Megiddo with King Necho of Egypt. Jehoahaz, Josiah’s son, takes over and does evil. He rules for three months and is captured by Necho. Necho appoints Jehoiakim as the king of Judah, but he is an Egyptian puppet ruling for eleven years.
