Samson escapes Gaza by ripping off the gates to the city together with a woman he loved, Delilah. Delilah tries to betray Samson several times by inquiring about the source of his strength. When he finally reveals his strength is in his hair, Delilah shaves him while asleep and is captured and blinded. While being held, his hair grows back, and he manages to bring down the temple, which collapses, killing him and many Philistines. Samson had ruled Israel for twenty years.
