When Samson finds out his wife has been given to another by his father-in-law, he agrees, and he torches the Philistine crops, destroying them. The Philistines took revenge by killing Samson's wife and family with fire. Samson is then brought to the Philistines by the men of Judah bound in chains. Samson breaks free and kills a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey.
