God instructs Joshua to take the city of Ai, and he leads the Israelites to capture and conquer it. An army of 30,000 leads to an onslaught, destroying Ai by fire, and the King of Ai is hanged on a tree until evening. Joshua then builds an altar on Mount Ebal where the curses are read while the blessings are read from Mount Gerizim.
