Achan takes some accursed items against God's orders. Joshua sends spies up to Ai, and they advise they can take it. However, Ai defeats the Israelites, and their courage weakens. God says that the defeat results from someone taking accursed items and commands that they are destroyed and the accused burnt to death. Achan confesses, and together with his children, they are stoned and burnt to death.
